| Overview: |
some basic concepts and principles
The features below will be fully implemented during 2009,
when the version 1.0 will be launched. The current Beta Version
is only the second step, in which people can fill in their
profiles, search for other users and read and post News. New
tools will be added little by little and our members
will be informed by email. Contact: info@logosphera.com

Social
networking |
Social
networks appeared on Internet in the last years and increased
very fast, as a part of the Web 2.0 phenomenon; however most
of them are networks without a specific subject and focus.
In our opinion social networking needs a reason;
hence logosphera.com
is the first international network specialized in Classics
and with focus on consistent on-line courses. |
| |
Membership |
As
a global network, logosphera.com
brings together professionals of Classics such as teachers,
professors, researchers, librarians, authors, editors, journalists,
etc., also students and every person interested in this area
as a source of knowledge or aesthetic enjoyment. Everyone
can join this network without the need of an invitation or
payment. |
| |
Courses |
Our
courses will be offered basically via Internet as webcourses;
however the promotion of face-to-face courses and lectures
is not excluded. The courses will be mainly paid, but we will
make efforts to offer some free courses or scholarships as
well.
Our
courses are mainly unaccredited (unofficial courses), so they
are taken for enjoyment and interest in Classics alone, but
they can equip you with the skills and confidence to progress
further in formal education, if you wish. logosphera.com
will provide to all that are approved a certificate with their
names, title of the course, date, teacher's name, content
and the grade. This certificate can be accessed and printed
by your User Home page in logosphera.com.
Each certificate will have a web address, so you can give
this address as a way to comprove the accuracy of the data.
. |
|
Partnership |
We
are open to partnership with other institutions or organizations,
to offer in co-operation online courses and events in Classics.
When a web course is offered in association with a formal
educational institution, this institution will be responsible
by the presential evaluation and formal certification. |
| |
Community |
Besides
being focused on offering courses, logosphera.com
will be
a virtual community with all resources normally known, such
as detailed individual profiles, networking, discussion and
work groups, and a very complete News System.
It is not necessary to take a course to join the network,
which will be always open, free and unrestricted. |
| |
Messages
or scrapbooks |
Although
many other social networks developed internal communication
systems, logosphera.com
will not provide any kind of private messages between members
or public scrapbooks. If one member wants to contact another
one, he must use the email address that is always published
in the Personal Profile Page.
On the other hand, we encourage public conversation in our
groups. |
| |
Groups |
There
will be two kinds of groups in logosphera.com:
discussion groups and work groups.
In the discussion groups the members will simply
discuss subjects related to Classics, always with the guidance
of an experienced person. In the work groups the
aim will be to produce some kind of product, such as an article,
an essay, organization of events, translation of a text, web
site, research, etc.
These groups can be restricted to a limited number of members
or opened to the entire community.
In a first moment the groups will be exclusively created by
logosphera.com,
but members can always suggest ideas for new groups.
There are other networks where people can easily create communities
about Classics, like orkut, myspace, friendster, facebook,
etc. Our members will be allowed to indicate in their profiles
their other digital identities and their community web addresses
in other social networks, so logosphera.com
don't intend to substitute other forms of social interaction
on Internet, but simply to offer another way to take part
in this kind of environment and give visibility to other communities
as well. |

construction) |

| |
Profiles |
In
other social networks, profiles are very limited because of
space avaliability for data storage. logosphera.com aims a
more specific public and for this reason can provide a profile
totally directed to Classics and more complete than those
we usually find on Internet.
For example, our members can indicate their favorite books,
movies, or websites related to Classics, and their particular
interest in this area.
Professionals of Classics can fill their profiles with details
of their activities and be easily found in the Teacher Profile
Page.
It is not mandatory to fill the complete profile, the better
way is to fill it in little by little.
The realibility of the profiles is extremely important for
us, therefore they should always present the full and real
name of the member. Be aware that profiles with fake names
when detected will be deleted. |

| |
News
System |
Members can post and receive
all kind of information about Classics (Ancient Greece &
Rome) in our network and filter the messages by categories
(courses, conferences, books, job offers, websites, scholarships,
etc), themes, areas (Greece and/or Rome), languages and countries,
in an easy way. Features
and Concept |
| |
Search
With the
data included in the profiles, more specific searches can
be done. The intention is not to subtitute other pages about
Classics on the Web, but to offer another efficient device
to reach a specific information inside or outside logosphera.com. |
|
| |
Privacy |
logosphera.com
will never sell, rent, share, trade or simply inform any data
about you and your organization for other people, companies,
institutions or governments, except with your explicit authorization.
We will never send you information that you have not explicitly
authorized.
We will do everything possible to protect our members against
any form of spam.
More details in our Privacy Page. |

Logosphera.com
Project |
This
is the beta version of Logosphera.com Project. We are testing
this tool and we really apologize if it doesn't work well
yet.
In the first moment we improved the basic tools for networking,
such as complete profiles, searches and News System. The complete
Version 1.0 of the project will be finished until the end
of the year. In the Version 2.0 we will expand logosphera.com
by creating also spaces for e-Publishing and e-Research in
Classics. |
| |
Social
networking with social responsability |
Most
of the current networks on Internet are simply "machines",
i.e., a programming software that different people can use
for different purposes. logosphera.com
is a virtual machine as well, but there is a main objective:
to improve Classical Studies all over the world. Our most
important tools to reach this goal are offering courses and
connecting people and organizations in a way that allows cooperation.
But we are also concerned about giving human or economic support
to individuals that don't have the means to develop all their
potential in Classics. So in the next years we will create
different ways to support individuals such as students, teachers
and researchers in Classics.
Another way is to give support to other organizations that
promote Classical Studies in the world. We will offer mainly
technical support to use Internet as a tool in Classics, and
also economic help for those organizations that have difficulties,
specially in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
