There
are two kinds of News in Logosphera.com:
I
- Logosphera.com
News:
Members will be informed about new features,
groups, courses, etc. and other information exclusively
related to the site by these News. They will also be
sended by email to all members. |
|
II
- User
News
All members can use this system to post or read News about
Classics.
Logosphera.com will not send these News by email to avoid
overloading your mail box.
This page is mainly about the operation and concept
of the User News. |
|
1.
Complete Integration with User Profile
Each
News in the system provides a link to the poster's profile,
so all members always know who exactly posted a News. |
|
| Each
profile shows all News posted by a user in the My
News box, so each News posted is always an
important part of a profile and it is another way
to know which are the interests of this member. |
|
2.
Posting News
Content:
First of all the content of a News must be related to
Classics, naturally in the sense of Ancient Greece &
Rome. It is acceptable News about other areas as long
as it has some relation with Classics.
If the News doesn't have any relevant content, other
users can mark it as Inappropiate.
In this case Logosphera.com will be informed and will
decide if the News is inappropriate or not. If the News
isn't appropriate the user will be requested to
delete his News immediatly. It is important to maintain
relevance of information and if a member post inappropiate
News repeatedly his profile will be deleted from Logosphera.com.
Posting:
To post a News click on My News in the
User Home page. |
|
There
are only two mandatory fields: Title and Write
the News, i. e., the content for the News.
Optional fields are Where/Who, When
and Link. |
|
Attention:
News that have only title, content or the optional fields
will not be showed by the Filter System in the User
Home Page (see below) if the user choose some
criteria of filtering. Therefore to give more
visibility to his News classify them according to some
criteria .
Filter
System : The poster can classify a News using
five criteria: area, theme, category, country and language. |
|
Using
one or more criteria, other users can easily find the
News in the All News page or can use
filters to receive only a specific kind of News on the
User Home Page (see below).
News
can be classified by any country or any language
or also by two basic areas, Greece and/or Rome.
The
user can relate his News with 12 general themes
in Classics:
- Language/Grammar/Linguistics
- Literature
- History
- Anthropology/Sociology/Psychology
- Archaeology
- Epigraphy/Papirology/Paleography
- Architecture
- Arts/Music
- Mythology/Religion
- Science/Medicine/Technology
- Economy
- Law/Justice
And
there are 11 categories of News according to the type
of the subject:
- Courses
- Conferences/Seminars/Lectures/Congresses/Calls for
Papers
- Books/Journals/Articles/Reviews
- Dissertations/Theses
- Projects/Discoveries
- Arts/Exhibitions/Museums
- Plays/Movies/TV/Radio/Operas/Performances
- Websites/Blogs/Communities/Emails lists or Groups
- Grants/Scholarships/Prizes/Awards
- Jobs/Opportunities
- Others
Edit/Delete:
The poster can always edit his/her News or delete it
on the My
News page.
Please delete all News which content is not relevant
anymore to the community.
3.
Browsing/Searching News
In the All
News page users can browse News by a combination
of the five criteria.
For example, it's possible to find only News that are
classified as Literature & Books/Journals/Articles/Reviews
& English & USA & related
to Rome.
It is possible to search using only words of the title
or content fields. For example, the user can
find only News with "Homer" in the title,
or with "Itaka" in the content. The user can
combine the five criteria mentioned above with the textual
search.
To see all News in the system simply don't mark any
option and click on Search News by.
The News are showed from the most recent to the oldest. |
|
4.
Filtering News
The
News System is very flexible. There are 3 basic options:
1. All News can be showed on the User Home Page. This
is the default option.
2. If there are too many News or you simply don't want
to read them on your User Home page and
prefer to search them on the All News
page, click on Configure News and mark the option
Don't show me any News. To save this
option click on Save Filters & Go to User
Home.
3. But the most special feature of the News System is
that the user can use the five criteria of classification
to filter only News that are really important to him/her.
This allows each user to define exactly which News he/she
wants to see when logged in Logosphera.com.
For example the user can choose that only News in French
are going to be showed on his User Home
page or combine it with different criteria such as News
in French, related to Canada and about
Greece and Literature, so each time
he logs in Logosphera.com he will see the most relevant
News for him, without wasting time searchig it again.
In each criteria more than one option can be selected,
for example Canada & France, for
country, or French & English &
Spanish, for language. This system provides thousands
of combinations and can adapt itself to very specific
interests. It is a combination of the most generic email
list about Classics with the most specific one.
The user will have access to all News posted and at the
same time control the range of the News. |
|
He
can always search and read other News that are not included
in his/her configuration by clicking the Browse
all News link.
5.
Reading News
You can read News in these pages:
User
Home: all News or only the filtered by
the system
Browse
all News: all News or the News that have
the criteria or the words used to search
All my News page: all News from a specific
member (see image below) |
|
Each
News in these pages always shows this basic information:
title, name of the poster with link to his profile and
date when it was posted.
To
read the News click on the title. A new window, the
News page, is going to be opened with
the title in the first line.
In
this line, on the right corner there are two important
options. The user can add the News to his bookmarks
to read it later or he can block the user that posted
it, if he consider his News not relevant (1). This is
another filter in the system, a negative one, and in
the Configure News page there is a
link to all the members blocked. There the user can
also unblock his blocked members.
Below this line there are all the fields associated
with the News by the poster like Where/Who, When, Area,
Theme, Category, Country and Language. (2)
The
next field is the content of the News and below it there
is the link related to the News. (3)
In
the last line there is the email of the poster in case
you want to contact him because there is some wrong
information in his News (4). On the right corner of
the same line, the user can click on Inappropiate
(5). An email will be sent to Logosphera.com warning
that the content is not appropriate to the system because
it is not related with Classics.
For example, a News about Shakespeare is not appropiate,
but if there is some relation with Rome tragedy or history,
etc., in this case, it is appropriate. If you aren't
sure if your News is or not appropriate, please send
it to info@logosphera.com
before posting it.
On
the left side of the News page there
is the information about the poster and a link to all
other News that he has posted (6).
You
can send a News by email to other people, even people
that are not member of Logosphera.com simply putting
their email in the fields (7). If you are a List or
Group administrator you can also redirect a News to
your email list or group, but before it don't forget
to include our email news@logosphera.com in your list
or group. |
|
|
The
News System is only one way more to distribute News
about Classics on Internet. It is not an email list
or group because there are only News in the system,
not discussions. So these different forms, News System
and lists or groups can be complementary. Logosphera.com
wants more lists or groups to become known to more people.
There is one category of News only to inform the members
about them: Websites/Blogs/Communities/Emails lists
or Groups. In our opinion people can perfectly
be members of an email list or group, where they can
debate more general or more specific subjects and at
the same time read and post News in our News System.
The
News System is simply a tool to everyone that wants
to inform people interested in Classics about the different
aspects of this subject. More posting in the system,
more people will find what they want.
If
you have any doubt, please let us know by sendind
a message.
